Emmanuel College

Enrollment Management

At a critical stage of a strategic planning process in 1999, Emmanuel College commissioned Maguire Associates to measure the reactions of prospective students to several new possible initiatives. These included the possibility of becoming a coeducational institution as well as possibly establishing new departmental structures, individualized majors, centers of excellence, 12-month study, and paid internships. In addition, the College wanted to understand the potential impact of these initiatives on enrollment over the next several years.

We conducted an on-line research study of prospective students. Our findings and collaborative dialogue with the College’s President, trustees, administrative leadership, and faculty contributed to the College’s decision to become a coeducational institution in 2000. They also provided the foundation upon which the College:

  • Framed and prioritized a range of strategic actions;
  • Developed messaging platforms to convey its new vision, positioning, and priorities to all key audiences;
  • Made the successful transition to a coeducational institution.

Since then, Emmanuel College has enjoyed consistent enrollment growth – welcoming the largest incoming class in its history in the fall of 2003 (448 new first-time and transfer students) and dramatically increasing its enrollment from that of 1999.
